Ok, here is the issue. I just got a Terabyte External HD, and my wife and I both have laptops that we usually use in the living room on the couch (lol)

I want to just plug the HD into our wireless router via an ethernet connection (since that's all the router has on the back) . I know there are SEVERAL adapter cables out there, but is there a USB to Ethernet cable adapter so I can just plug it right into the router and then have it viewable to our home network??

NAS - Network Attached Storage or SAN - Storage Area Network

Those can do what you are asking. You can't just plug in an external drive to a network as it has no network awareness, it is not a computer, and does not contain the required protocols.

After it is plugged into one of your computers, simply share that drive and your other computer should be able to use it.
