MORE THAN YOU WANTED TO KNOW...
Lysa Hawke came to life in a small New York town during the 20th century, where she was doted on and cried a lot. At some point during her young life, Lysa discovered that she held a crayon fairly well and felt that her white walls were much too drab. Her fate was then sealed, much to her parents's dismay. But enough about that.

She began her career in Web design in 1996 for a fledgling company, cutting her teeth on things like Flash 1.0 (a simple vector animation program at the time) and engaging in heated debates on whether links were "allowed" to be any color but blue. Happily, Jakob Nielsen was proved wrong, and the Web culture moved forward.

In the last 11 years, Lysa has seen technologies come and go (hello, Syquest drives), but has always been completely excited about what was invariably around the corner. As table structures and superfluous splash pages go the way of the dodo, Lysa is profoundly interested in how we can apply new or existing technologies in new ways. While she's a designer at heart, her interest in technology assures that any Web project she designs will be compatible with whatever those crazy programmers and developers dream up, keeping in mind that the message is always the most important aspect of any design.

Aside from all that stuff, Lysa loves snow and all snow-based activities, egg nog lattes, music (except cheesy new country or pretty much anything considered "Top 40" or "Adult Contemporary"), writing, drawing, watching certain TV shows (please don't hold it against her if "America's Next Top Model" comes up in conversation), and pretty much anything in pop culture that, if you say you like it, words like "geek" or "nerd" may be bandied about.

And Jakob Nielsen's Web site needs a redesign.
